Animal Husbandry department completes cattle vaccination of about 46 lakh
Anantapur: In a bid to combat foot and mouth disease in cattle, the Animal Husbandry department has completed the cattle vaccination programme covering all live stock in the district.
The presence of foot and mouth disease has been adversely affecting the quality of milk production. All cows and buffaloes have been vaccinated. The vaccination is aimed at boosting milk production by treating the disease. The disease has its bearing on the quality of milk and its quantum of milk production.
The department is engaged in vaccinating each animal twice a year free of cost through the Veterinary hospitals and dispensaries in the district.
Joint Director of Animal Husbandry Dr B Sanyasi Rao says that 92 per cent of the cattle have been vaccinated.
The vaccination programme was taken up to prevent the disease and also to cure it. The campaign was launched on August 25 and has been completed. All the cows and buffaloes population has been covered.
The department covers sheep and goats under de-worming programme. Vaccination of the cattle is being done twice a year. The cattle population in the district is 46 lakhs. About 29 veterinary doctors and 60 veterinary assistants and 50 other medical staff are engaged in the campaign.
