Football tourney underway

Kurnool: Playing football is not an easy game as it needs lots of energy and concentration to tackle the opponents, said Rajya Sabha member TG Venkatesh. He participated in the inaugural function of state-level under-17 category football competitions organised by the School Sports Promotion Foundation (SSPF) at District Sports Authority stadium here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the MP said that India can be on par with European, African and Arab countries if the football is practiced regularly and played with interest. He assured the SSPF representatives to extend support for promoting the football in the state and wished all the best to the players, who are participating in the game. 

Stadium Club president M Rajasekhar, State Football Organisation president C Ramanjaneyulu, District Sports Development Officer (DSDO) Jagannadha Reddy, organising secretary MNV Raju, Football Association representatives Y Srinivasulu, Venugopal and others were present.

Sewing machines distributed  In another programme, TG Venkatesh and city MLA SV Mohan Reddy laid the foundation stone for the construction of cement concrete roads and drains at Joharapuram. 

The MP and MLA also distributed sewing machines to 49 women, who have been trained. Later, Venkatesh said that the state government was striving to uplift the poor and the needy by providing training in skill development.

“The government’s main intention is to ensure that every family should be able to earn at least Rs 10,000 per month,” he added. He even advised the women to learn using sewing as the government is providing free tailoring programmes. Interested women could approach the Kurnool Municipal Corporation Commissioner for further assistance, the MP said.
