GST e-way bill brings transparency in trade

Tirupati: CGST Commissionerate of Tirupati division organised an interactive session on GST e-way bill provisions here on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, CGST Commissioner of Tirupati division K Engineer has underlined the importance of e-way bill for trade.

The new system will be rolled out from February 1 on inter-state and intra-state movement of goods. “It is mandatory for transportation of goods for distance greater than 10 kilometres and having value more than Rs 50,000 per consignment,” explained the Commissioner. 

This user-friendly system has been designed in a simple manner and it can be generated with a desktop or mobile. Also, there will be less harassment and government can plug leakages with minimum intervention.

He said since GST was mooted in the country, the department has conducted various outreach programmes to bring awareness among trade and industry.

Assistant Commissioner of Central Tax, Kadapa CGST Division, G Gopalakrishna Rao has explained the provisions of GST e-way bill and advantages through the powerpoint presentation. Assistant Commissioner of Central Tax, Kurnool CGST Division, T Senthil Murugan has explained the practical procedure to be followed to generate an e-way bill by using online e-way bill generation portal. 

He made it clear that GST portal and e-way bill portal are completely different. More than 200 people from trade, manufacturing and transport associations of the district have participated and they raised several doubts which were cleared by Joint Commissioner Amaresh Kumar and Dr K Balaji, Assistant Commissioner of CGST, Tirupati division.
