Mired in debts, farmer ends life

Guntur: Unable to bear financial problems, a 50-years-old farmer committed suicide  in Vinjanampadu village under Prathipadu mandal in the district on Thursday. He is  the second farmer to end life in the in a span of one week. One Kondapalli Brahmaiah of  Phirangipuram committed suicide at the collectorate four days. 

According to police, Narne Appa Rao had been cultivating cotton and chilli in six acres in Vinjanampadu village. However, he incurred losses due to falling cotton and chilli prices. This season also, he invested more than  Rs 5 lakh on cotton and chilli crops but suffered heavy losses  due to pink bollworm attack on cotton. Police said the farmer had been under pressure from lenders but was not in a position to repay loans.

Distressed over the situation, he went to agriculture  fields in village and consumed pesticide.Locals who noticed him, informed his family members who shifted him to local hospital and later to the GGH in Guntur, where doctors declared him brought dead. He is survived by wife and two daughters .
