Woman ends life over dowry harassment

Kodumur (Kurnool): Besta Sravani (23) committed suicide after consuming pesticide-laced drink at her in-law’s house in Kothuru village of Kodumur mandal on Tuesday. The deceased was a resident of Bommala Sathram in Nandyal town and was married to one B Mallikarjuna of Kothur village six months ago. It was a love affair but on the compromise of both family members, the marriage was performed.

Mallikarjuna, who posed himself to be a good person prior to the marriage, was known to be having lots of bad habits. He began to show his evil tendencies just two months after marriage and began to harass her. Besides the husband, her in-laws were also harassing her for not bringing dowry.

Vexed with the harassment of her husband and in-laws, she took extreme step. She was rushed to the Government General Hospital in Kurnool and she died on Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment.

The parents of the deceased alleged that Mallikarjuna and his parents drove her daughter to commit suicide. The deceased was also pregnant at the time of committing suicide. The family members lodged a complaint with the Kodumur police against Mallikarjuna and his parents. The police registered a case.
