Call to maintain high standards in research

Visakhapatnam: Director of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Dr Chandrasekhar said that India has been witnessing a rapid development in science and technology. Hence, the affiliated research centres in the universities should also gear up and maintain higher standards in research, he added.

Andhra University in association with CSIR, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Sujana Foundation, NTR Trust and State government, organised a conference ‘Be an Entrepreneur of S&T- BEST’, here on Thursday. The aim of the conference is to ensure an effective deployment of relevant CSIR technologies in rural areas of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States. 

The programme involves an awareness campaign on technologies at various universities followed by selection of the potential candidates and groom them in technical and business management aspects followed by mentoring the entrepreneurs for start-up and incubation with financial assistance from Mudra agencies.

Chandrasekhar said that in the present era, science and technology are playing a vital role and one should get more knowledge for optimum utilisation of the technologies to achieve the goals. 

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister of State for Science and Technologies YS Chowdary said that universities should shape up the young minds effectively and train them as per the needs of the industry and society.

HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that there is a big change in the job market and also rise in start-ups. The youth are now choosing entrepreneurship over several service activities. The Central and State governments have been taking several initiatives to provide higher knowledge in the fields of the technologies, the minister added.

Visakhapatnam MP K Haribabu said that Prime Minister’s new initiative Make in India programme is creating a lot of opportunities. Therefore, youth and researchers should avail the opportunities and obtain high knowledge particularly in science and technology, the MP added. Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University Prof G Nageswara Rao and research scholars were present.
