NRDC inks deal with GITAM for University Technology Transfer Centre

Visakhapatnam: The National Research Development Corporation (NRDC)under the Union Ministry of Science and Technology and GITAM (deemed to be University) are jointly establishing a University Technology Transfer Centre (UTTC) in the city to fulfil the dream of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Skill India’ campaign become a reality.

As part of the programme, Chairman NRDC Dr Purushottam and Registrar GITAM Prof. M Potharaju singed the MoU here on Thursday in the presence of GITAM Vice-Chancellor Prof MS Prasada Rao.

While signing the MoU, Dr Purushottam said that NRDC has forged strong links with the scientific and industrial community in the country and abroad and developed a wide network of research institutions, academia and industry. He said that GITAM has got the best infrastructure and the incubation centre was one of the best in the country. 

He expressed hope that the GITAM-NRDC Technology Transfer Centre would directly connect the GITAM students to the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Skill India’ campaign where the government was keen in nurturing the entrepreneurial activities. 

He congratulated GITAM for being one of best universities where a large number of patents have been filed and many students had established themselves in reputed entrepreneurial activities.   

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof.MS Prasada Rao said that GITAM established an IPR Cell and nearly 14 patents were filed under the cell and IPR Policy document was also prepared for the IPR use. 

He said that around 500 active research scholars perusing their research work in science and technology areas in the University.  He expressed the hope that the current University Technology Transfer Cell would help GITAM in developing a framework for technology transfer and commercialisation of the patents basing on research outcomes. He had presented that the students and alumni of GITAM had won laurels at many places for their start-up activities.
