Surgery made easy with radiology
Vijayawada: With the advent of interventional radiology, the surgeries have become easy both for the surgeons and the patients, said Dr MV Chalapati Rao, noted interventional radiologist.
Addressing the weekly health programme on ‘Interventional Radiology—Surgery of 21st century’ at Vasavya Nursing Home with Dr G Maru in the chair, Dr Chalapati Rao said that it has become very easy for the surgeons to perform even in the case of complicated surgeries without the use of surgical knives.
He said that uterine artery embolisation method could be used to remove the fibroids in the uterus without going for major surgery. Interventional radiology could be effectively used to remove cancerous tumours without resorting to surgery, he added.
The radiologist said that intra-arterial thrombolysis technique could be used to treat paralysis which was caused by damaged blood vessels in the brain. Spinal fractures could also be treated effectively with the help of interventional radiology, he added. This method is also useful to treat blood vomiting, blood in sputum, bleeding through nose which are really life-threatening diseases, he said.
