Lovers’ bid to end life, batting for life

Vijayawada: Two teenage lovers attempted to commit suicide by dousing their bodies with kerosene and setting themselves afire near Lingagudem in Penuganchiprolu in Krishna district on Saturday as their parents objected to their marriage. 

They were battling for life with severe burn injuries. According to Penuganchiprolu police, Dharavat Sai, a 19-year-old youth of Sivapuram village in Penuganchiprolu mandal, fell in love with Dharavat Sunita, 18, of Damacharla mandal in Nalgonda district. 

Their parents raised objection for their marriage because their surnames are same and they are like brother and sister. Upset with this, the teenagers went to the nearby farm lands in the village and set themselves afire. They sustained severe burn injuries. Sai is a petty trader and eking out livelihood by selling noodles. Locals, noticed them and informed the police about the incident. 

Penuganchiprolu police seized kerosene tin, two-wheeler and other belongings from the site and shifted them to the government hospital in Jaggaiahpet later to GGH in Vijayawada. Penuganchiprolu are investigating the case.
