Call to make city polio-free

In all, 38 officers, 1,832 staff, 382 immunisation centres, 30 transit teams and four mobile teams are deployed for the pulse polio programme

Vijayawada: In all, 1,38,122 infants below five years administered polio drops to mark the Pulse Polio Immunisation programme across the city here on Sunday. Officials and politicians actively participated in the drive.

In all, 38 officers, 1,832 staff, 382 immunisation centres, 30 transit teams and four mobile teams were deployed for the pulse polio programme besides centres at railway stations, bus stations Durga temple and other important places in the city.

Municipal Commissioner J Nivas participated in the immunisation programme at Kothapeta Maternity Health Centre and said the parents of the children should feel the responsibility to immunise their children. Road to road mapping survey will be done for 100 per cent immunisation, he added.

Mayour Koneru Sridhar while immunising the children at his residence said that the it was the responsibility of the parents to get polio immunisation done to their kids below five years and said that Vijayawada city should be a polio-free city. Special centres were arranged at railway station, bus station, Gunadala temple, Durga temple and other busy centres.

Chief medical officer Dr Aarjun Rao, DM&HO Dr T Padmaja Rani, assistant medical officers Dr N Raju, Dr Babu Srinivas, Dr Iqbal Husain and others participated in the programme.
