Yarlagadda faults govt for neglecting Telugu language

Guntur: Former MP Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad criticised the state government for neglecting development of Telugu language.

Addressing the valedictory of three-day Telugu Sahitya Mahotsavams at Tenali Ramakrishna Kalakshetram here on Sunday, he came down heavily on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for giving prominence to information technology sector in the state neglecting promotion of Telugu language.

Stressing the strong need to save Telugu language to future generations, Lakshmi Prasad said the Telugu newspapers failed to question the government in this regard. “If Telugu papers fails to do it, in future nobody will purchase Telugu newspapers,” he said.

He reminded that former president Savepalli Radha Krishnan set up Andhra University in the name of Andhra Viswa Kala Nataka Parishad and named Telugu names to various wings in the university.

However, recently a convention centre inaugurated by President Ramanath Kovind in the Andhra University was named after English person’s name and added that despite it, they are maintaining silence.

Lakshmi Prasad lauded former chief minister N T Rama Rao for development of Telugu language. Film actor and writer Gollapudi Maruti Rao stressed on need to protect Telugu language.

Minister for social welfare Nakka Ananda Babu, MLA Alapati Rajendra Prasad, Mahila Commission  chairperson Nannapaneni  Rajakumari  were present.
