‘Steps needed to increase income of ryots’

Guntur: Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu said the Central government gave top priority to agriculture in the Union Budget 2018-19 taking welfare of the farmers into consideration and stressed on the need to give priority to agriculture in the next 15-years to make agriculture viable and increase income of the farmers.  He felt that there was a need to set up food processing units to ensure value addition of products and benefit to the farmers. He addressed JKC College golden jubilee and alumni meet at the college premises in Guntur city on Saturday.

He said in order to ensure value addition to the farmers, there was a need to adopt multiple strategies. He said when the farmers get better income they will be happy. He stressed on implementation of election reforms in the country and added that there was a need to conduct all elections within three months once in five years. He however said consensus among the political parties was essential to implement it. He said it was the responsibility of the voters to elect candidates having capability, conduct and character.

Venkaiah expressed concern over inequalities increasing in the country. He said implementation of reforms was essential to ensure that everybody enjoy the fruits of development. He reiterated that though he retired from active politics, he would continue to extend cooperation for the development of the State. Referring to the strides made by the country in medicine, technology and other areas, Venkaiah pointed out that while most of the software engineers in USA belonged to India, a majority of them were from Andhra Pradesh.
