Stray dogs attack, 25 including 18 kids injured

Kurnool: A dozen stray dogs created panic in Atmakur town by attacking people and injured at least 25 persons on Friday. Out of the 25 injured, 18 were said to be children. All the victims were rushed to the local government hospital where treatment has been extended.

Five of them were said to have been severely injured in the attack. According to available sources, a group of dogs together pounced on the children, who were playing on the road and injured them badly. The onlookers, who tried to drive them away were also attacked.

In the attack, five children, Raju, Chintu, Viswam, Cheran and Fathima were badly bitten by the dogs while some other children suffered minor injuries. However, the residents bearing sticks, managed to drive them away.

The dogs after entering another street, also attacked the passers-by and children. The victims alleged that despite several complaints lodged with the municipality, the civic staff is least concerned to initiate action.

By every passing year, the number of stray dogs in the town are increasing. The children and the elderly persons fear to walk on the streets, said Viresh, a resident of Atmakur.

Another resident M Mukthar Ahmed said that the stray dog menace has become a big nuisance in the town. They were unable to sleep soundly during night due to the howls of the dogs, he lamented.
