10% decrease in road mishaps: IG

Kurnool: Rayalaseema Range Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Iqbal on Monday flagged off new bikes handed over to traffic cops. District Superintendent of Police (SP) Gopinath Jetty and Kurnool Municipal Corporation Commissioner CB Harinath Reddy were also present. Speaking on the occasion, the IG said that due importance is being given to road safety.

To curb the road accidents, 8 traffic bikes have been launched, the IG said. Giving a comparative statement of road accidents, he said that road mishaps have been reduced by 10 per cent and deaths by 13 per cent from November 2017 to January 2018 compared to 3 months of November 2016 to January 2017.

More awareness programmes on road safety will be conducted in the coming days, the IG stated and sought the cooperation of the people. Briefing about the motive of handing over the bikes to traffic personnel, Mohammed Iqbal said the two-wheelers will be useful to reach the road accident spots and help the victims and clear traffic jams if occurred during festivals and in some other occasions. The IG also inspected the development works being carried out in the premises of District Police Office (DPO).

He appreciated the JSW management for extending favour in buying the bikes for traffic cops. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shaik Sha Vali, DSPs J Babu Prasad, CM Gangaiah, S Khader Basha, and Iliyas Basha; Circle Inspectors D Parthasarathi Reddy, B Krishnaiah, and Ramaiah Naidu; JSW representatives, Veerababu, Arpan, and Sambasiva Rao, and traffic police personnel were present.
