25 farmers selected for sericulture study
Visakhapatnam: To promote sericulture, the Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) of Department of Agriculture is taking several initiatives in the district. As many as 224 tribal farmers in nine agency mandals and 17 mandals in the plain areas have been engaged in sericulture. According to ATMA officials, the district has 530 mulberry plants.
With this, the district administration has decided to increase sericulture farming and taking several awareness programmes explaining the good earnings in the sericulture. As the climatic condition in the district is favourable for sericulture, the ATMA officials are asking the farmers to shift from traditional agriculture practices to high profitable sericulture sector.
As part of the initiative, the sericulture department in association with ATMA is organising a 5-day study tour on sericulture practices in Krishna and Godavari districts from February 9. As many as 25 farmers were selected from district for the study tour. Collector Pravin Kumar flagged off the bus in which the farmers moved for the tour.
