No treasure but cannon balls found in excavation

Pathikonda (Kurnool): Officials are continuing the hunt for treasure at the ancient Chennampalle fort at Thuggali mandal. After a gap of 36 days, the officials have unearthed eight stone balls on Sunday evening. These stone balls are known to have used in the cannons.

Besides stone balls, deepam, a horse-teeth, a sharp-edged weapon and traces of room constructions were found by the officials. This time, the officials are carrying out the excavations based on the report given by the Geological Survey of India (GSI).

According to a reliable source, the kings of Gooty fort which is situated 40 miles away from Chennampalle were known to have used the Chennampalle fort for hiding treasure and the same could be used in times of necessary.

The source also said that the GSI report has confirmed that some constructions have been detected 12 feet beneath the soil. With this, the officials have intensified the digging works by engaging 50 non-local workers. So far, the officials have spent Rs 50 lakh for unearthing the hidden treasures.

Unfortunately, neither treasures nor valuable minerals have been detected except some bones of horses, tusks of elephants and some stone carvings. Even, a pond with 12 steps was also detected at the Chennampalle fort. This time, the officials with great enthusiasm are digging at the spot where the GSI officials have notified.
