Ongole aims at top rank in Swachh Sarvekshan

Ongole: The Ongole Municipal Corporation is aiming for top rank in the Swachh Sarvekshan-2018, a national-level ranking system for 4,041 urban local bodies in the country, announced Commissioner Sankranti Venkatakrishna.

Swachh Sarvekshan is aimed to educate the public on sanitation, achieve and keep open defecation-free status and involve the public in keeping the city clean and hygiene.

The Sarvekshan team awards ranks to the local bodies based on the total marks scored in three divisions, service level progress, citizen feedback and direct observation. It allocates 1,400 marks for the waste collection, segregation, processing and disposal, ODF, capacity building, awareness in public and best practices. 

It gives 1,200 marks on direct observation of the public toilets, sanitation at markets and transport centres, implementations of separate basket system for dry and wet garbage.

For the citizen feedback, the committee awards 1,400 marks for the answers about the awareness of Swachh Sarvekshan, cleanliness of town, separate basket system, waste collection from houses, cleanliness of toilets, Puraseva app and its functionality and issue redressing system.

The commissioner announced that Ongole town is ready to be Swachh Ongole. Venkata Krishna said, “The Swachh Sarvekshan team is visiting Ongole from February 12 to 16 and they will interact with the public.

They will ask the public a few questions about the waste collection system being implemented in the town and the betterment in sanitation compared to last year. As the change is visible to the eyes now, we expect the public will definitely give better feedback to the team and see the OMC get top rank in the country by bettering from the last year position of 70.”
