Cricket bookie, 20 others arrested for gambling

Nellore: Cops took cricket bookie D Krishna Singh into custody along with 20 others while organising gambling under the limits of Nellore rural station on Wednesday and recovered Rs 70 lakh worth property from them.

The accused were identified as G Dhanunjaya, N Madhava Reddy, P Gajendra, M Penchalaiah, G Siva Rama Krishna Rao, C Srinivasulu, G Suneel Kumar, S Bharath Kumar, T Gopal Rao, Shaik Khaja Mohiddin, R Santhaiah, N Sankar, Ch Srinivasulu, B Srinivasulu, R Subrahmanyam, K Nagarajaiah, S Nataraja, Shaik Rafi, Ch Narasimha Rao and Syed Mohinuddin.

Nellore Rural Circle Inspector P Srinivas Reddy said cricket bookie D Krishna Singh along with 20 others was playing cards at a eucalyptus garden belongs to AP Forest Development Corporation at Kandamur village in Nellore rural mandal.

On receiving information, cops conducted raids on the gambling spot. ‘Cricket bookie Krishna Singh and others tried to attack the police personnel who conducted raids with lathis and prevented them from carrying out duties,’ said P Srinivasa Reddy. The cops recovered Rs 20.15 lakh cash, gold, 3 cars, 20 mobiles, 11 bikes, wrist watches, iron rods, knifes, playing cards, and charging lights from the accused. 

The CI said cases were booked against them under the AP Gaming Act. It may be recalled that the Nellore police arrested cricket bookie D Krishna Singh and 115 bookies/sub-bookies, financiers under various sub-divisions in the district on August 3, 2017. Krishna Singh, who hails from Nellore district, had organised cricket bettings in the past. Initially, he was arrested in 2002.
