Tremendous growth for social science research
Kadapa: All the research scholars must have the essential knowledge of the latest research methods, said Prof Attipalli Ramachandra Reddy, Vice-Chancellor of Yogi Vemana University (YVU). Participating as chief guest and addressing the inaugural session of the three-day national workshop on ‘Research methodology and Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS),’ he stressed that tremendous growth of social science research and its application have necessitated the application of the latest research tools for producing effective research results, he added.
Application of various tools under SPSS will not only authenticate the results but also provide the much-needed validity and reliability of the data presented, the V-C stated. Delivering the key note address, Prof B Rajasekhar from the University of Hyderabad (UoH) stated that every researcher must have innovation, curiosity and analysing power to perform research.
He stressed on the importance of selection of right sample and its effects in performing research. Stressing the need to have social relevance to the research, he said that all research must have subject and social application. YVU Registrar Prof K Chandraiah has informed that the present-day researches have an additional advantage of application of many statistical packages for better validation of their results.
YVU College Principal Prof K Satyanarayana Reddy informed various process and procedures involved in the application of new tools in SPSS. Workshop Convener Dr V Lazar has stated that more than 100 participants from various states are participating in the three-day workshop. The participants will be made aware of the various date entry procedures, descriptive statistics, and issues of plagiarism and practical orientation of SPSS.
The workshop is attended by more than 100 teachers, researchers and students from all over the state. Prof M Kannan from Madurai Institute of Social Sciences, Prof CH Venkataiah from Gitam University, Visakhapatnam and Dr V Lakshmanapathi from Anna Government Arts College, Karaikal, Tamil Nadu will deliver special lectures on various research methodology topics in the three-day long workshop.
