Water conservation campaign from Feb 12 to June 7

Amaravati: Minister for Water Resources Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao said a State-wide awareness programme will be conducted on water conservation from February 12 to June 7.

Addressing a review meeting on Neeru-Pragathi at Secretariat on Friday, Devineni said the programme was being conducted under Jala Samrakshna Udyama Spoorthi. 

It is being held for the second time in the State and repair works to water tanks, construction of check dams, rockfill dams, contour trenches and other works would be included in the programme.

The officials explained to the Minister about the progress of various water conservation works in districts. Collectors of Srikakulam, Anantapur, Chittoor and Prakasam spoke to the Minister and explained about the works of farm ponds, watersheds and others. 

The Minister suggested to officials that every drop of water could be saved by taking up water conservation works in a big way across the State as per the directions of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

He also directed officials to expedite the works and complete them within this year. He also told them to make arrangements to conduct Water Users’ Associations elections in June.  Principal Secretary to Water Resources department Shashibhushan Kumar and officials of various departments participated.
