International smuggler held; red sanders worth Rs 4 cr seized
Kadapa: In a major breakthrough, Kadapa police arrested another international smuggler Ashok Kumar Agarwal of Rajasthan and recovered three tonnes of red sanders logs worth Rs 4 crore from him on Saturday.
According to sources, the accused was involved in 10 cases related to red sanders smuggling in Kadapa district.
Sources disclosed that recently Kadapa police arrested some inter-State and one international red sanders smuggler at Mydukuru and recovered huge quantity of red sanders logs worth about Rs one crore from them.
During interrogation, they revealed their acquaintance with the Rajasthan-based international smuggler Ashok Kumar Agarwal and how he was involved in red sanders smuggling in Kadapa and other districts in the State.
Based on the information provided by the arrested smugglers, special party police headed by Additional Superintendent of police SK Nayeem and faction zone DSP A Srinivasulu 10 days ago went to Rajasthan and launched manhunt.
Following a tip-off, police conducted flash raids at a godown located in Khera Thakur village of Bharathpur district and nabbed the culprit while he was illegally transporting the red sander logs to other areas.
Meanwhile, following the involvement of Ashok Kumar Agarwal in several cases in Kadapa district, Kadapa police are discussing with the Rajasthan DGP for bringing the accused to Kadapa district very soon.
