Two persons drown at sea
Visakhapatnam: A holy dip on the occasion of ‘Maha Sivaratri’ ended with a tragedy in two families in the city on Wednesday as two persons were drowned in the Bay of Bengal at Jodugullapalem area. The deceased were identified as 49-year-old D Shiva Prasad and 45-year-old K Ramana.
They both were residents of Arilova colony in the city. After participating in ‘Maha sivarathri’ celebrations, crowds rushed to Jodugullapalem beach for taking a holy bath. A group of people form Arilova Colony also came there.
Though the police and other community guards were alerting the people and issuing warnings, a large number of people while enjoying the tides, moved deeper into the sea. Along with Shiva Prasad and his son Yeshwanth and Ramana, another two, while enjoying the bath, failed to observe a huge tide.
While Yeswanth got stuck in the tide, his father Shiva Prasad and Ramana tried desperately to save him but were washed away in the sea. However, expert swimmers saved Yeswanth and shifted him to a hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
Acting on information, police traced Shiva Prasad and Ramana and shifted them to a private hospital where the doctors declared them brought dead.
Ramana was an electrician by profession while Shiva Prasad was an employee in a shop. Police registered a case under Section 174 of CrPC and shifted the bodies to KG Hospital for post-mortem.
