Chariot fest draws huge crowds
Kakinada: The Lord Kukkuteswara Swamy chariot festival began here on Thursday in a grand manner. The Chariot is largest one in the district donated by Pithapuram Rajas.
The procession started after the festive idols of Lord Kukkuteswara and Goddess Raja Rajeswari were taken in palanquin in a traditional way amid the temple priests chanting Vedic hymns relating to Lord Siva.
The devotees gathered in large numbers to have a darshan of the festive idols. It is believed that having a darshan of deities when they are in a palanquin gives good fortune and prosperity to families.
Pithapuram MLA S V S N Varma also participated in the procession. MRO Suguna, Gollaprolu MRO Jaya, Temple Chairman Prakash and members of temple body participated in the chariot festival. Later a huge firecrackers show was organised at the Uppada centre.
