TDP reluctant to remove Mayor
Vijayawada: Telugu Desam Party MLC and Urban TDP president Buddha Venkanna on Wednesday convened a meeting with the TDP corporators at Kesineni Bhavan and discussed the demands made by the corporators for unseating Mayor Koneru Sridhar.
Some senior corporators insisted that the Mayor should be removed from the post at any cost and someone should be given a chance to hold the post for one year.
The TDP corporators narrated grievances and categorically made it clear that they were not happy with the Mayor. They alleged that the Mayor was ill-treating them. Of the total 38 TDP corporators, 35 of them attended the meeting hosted by MLC Venkanna.
The corporators demanded that their grievances be taken to the notice of the party high command. Some corporators said the corporation goes to the polls in a year and corporator from some other caste should be given a chance to hold the Mayor’s post. Most of the corporators complained that the Mayor was behaving very rudely with them and that tendency should be changed.
The meeting lasted for one-and-a-half hours. The City TDP president assured that their grievances will be informed to the party high command and tried to convince them to withdraw their demand on unseating the Mayor from the post.
Later, the MLC met Mayor Sridhar at the latter’s residence and discussed the future course of action. The Mayor assured that he would work in coordination with the corporators henceforth. The TDP leadership seems to be bent to continue the Mayor for one more year as the five year tenure would conclude next year.
If the Mayor is removed in Vijayawada, similar demands will be raised in other cities also creating a big headache to the party leadership. Buddha Venkanna will submit a report to the party leadership over the demands of the TDP corporators and response of the Mayor.
