Hyderabad: Giving more thrust to its commitment to ‘Make in India,’ Xiaomi India will make its two new offerings -- Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro -- at its two manufacturing units at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh. The Chinese mobile phone manufacturer toppled Samsung as the leader in the Indian smartphone market in fourth quarter of 2017. Xiomi enjoys 25 per cent market share followed closely by Samsung with 23 per cent. Xiomi plans to manufacture these two new models 100 per cent locally. The company manufactures 95 per cent of its smartphones at its facilities in Sri City.

Xiaomi India Managing Director and Global Vice President Manoj Kumar Jain said: “We’ll set up more manufacturing units in other categories as well. These two devices will be manufactured at two of our units located in Sri City. We will have more to share on the overall manufacturing front for the country soon. We’re manufacturing our other models 100 per cent locally made and these devices will also be 100 per cent manufactured in India.”

The company in association with Hipad Technology, is setting up its third manufacturing plant at Noida for manufacturing first facility for power banks. Xiomi Redmi brand smartphones account for six of top-10 selling phones in India and it enjoys 57 per cent market share online and 11 per cent share offline in the country.

Xiomi India is gearing up to defend the online territory and ramp up our offline presence for a strong year-long growth period.  The company on Wednesday launched two devices -- Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro. Both come with a 5.99-inch screen, yet look as big as the Redmi Note 4. Redmi Note 5 -- a successor to the highly-acclaimed Redmi Note 4 -- will cost Rs 9,999 for the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant and Rs 11,999 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB variant. Both the devices will go on sale on Flipkart and Mi.com on February 22.
