Testing lab set up at mirchi yard

Guntur: Asia's biggest Mirchi Yard has set up highly equipped testing lab for chillies at a cost of Rs 35 lakh with e-National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) funds on the yard premises.

The machines already reached the yard and installed, while the laboratory is expected to come into operation in a week. As soon as farmers bring chillies, the stock will be tested at the laboratory for quality, moisture per cent, colour and oil per cent.

The farmers will also get details of pesticide residues in the chillies. All these tests will be conducted free of cost in the laboratory for farmers. If the quality of chilli is good, the traders will get better price.

Guntur Mirchi Yard secretary N Srinivasa Rao said, "Chillies testing lab will come into operation within a week. The farmers will get full details regarding quality, colour, pesticide residues percentage and oil content percentage in the lab report. If the quality of chilli is good, the farmers can demand better price. All details will be uploaded on e-NAM website to get better price for farmers.”
