TD govt giving priority to farm & irrigation sectors: Zilla Parishad chief

Chittoor: Zilla Parishad (ZP) Chairperson Girvani said on Friday that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu accorded top priority for agriculture and irrigation sectors. The ZP chief participated as chief guest for the millet festival organised by the Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) here.

Addressing the gathering, she stressed on the need for increasing the millet production due to the growing importance for millets. She has stated that the farmers are lagging in adopting latest technologies for improving the millet yield. Farmers have exhibited variety millets in the festival.

In his presidential speech, ANGRAU Extension Officer Dr K Raja Reddy has stated that 76 lakh farmers in the state are solely dependent on agriculture in which 65 per cent of women are taking part in farm activities. He felt that the state government should accord industry status to agriculture and its allied sectors. He gave a call for creating more awareness on the usage of millets.

Millets are the most nutritional food, Raja Reddy mentioned. Dr S Rajasekhara Naidu, Project Director of the District Agriculture Science Centre has explained the scientific interventions in promoting the millets in the district. Chittoor MLA D A Satyaprabha, MLC B N Rajasimhulu, Mayor
