Nation’s first housing colony for transgenders in Kadapa
Kadapa: District Collector T Baburao Naidu on Wednesday has directed the officials of the Housing department to complete the construction of houses in a stipulated time and with good quality for transgenders.
Speaking after laying foundation stone for the transgender colony at Chinamachupalle village in Chennur mandal on Wednesday, the Collector stated that district administration is providing shelter for transgenders on the instructions of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
Construction of houses for transgenders is the first of its kind in the country, Naidu said, adding that houses will be constructed to the remaining transgenders in a phased manner. Houses were sanctioned to 22 transgenders. The Collector made an appeal to transgenders maintain cleanliness in and around their houses.
He warned them not to indulge in anti-social activities as government is keen on providing means for their livelihood so that their living standards are improved. Naidu has recalled a transgender was absorbed as an outsourcing employee in the Revenue department.
Housing Corporation Managing Director A Rajasekhar said that bhoomi pooja was performed for 84 houses in the colony including 22 houses allocated to the transgenders. Joint Collector Shweta Teotia, Chennuru Tahsildar Satyanandam and other officials were present.
