Faculty recruitment in 3 varsities halted
Nellore: Recruitment of teaching posts along with backlogs in 3 universities - Vikrama Simhapuri University-Nellore, JNTU-Kakinada and Rayalaseema University-Kurnool - were stopped following a recent court direction when students of VSU filed a writ petition in the AP High Court.
The Department of higher education which responded to the direction of the High Court informed that they had directed the officials of varsities to stop recruitment in the institutions where service of the Vice-Chancellor is less than 6 months prior to superannuation.
The students of the varsity who filed the petition in the Court earlier explained that there were numerous irregularities in the institutions since Prof V Veeraiah had joined as Vice-Chancellor and there was no action even though they had lodged complaint with the HRD Minister G Srinivasa Rao on irregularities in construction works of the varsity campus.
The Higher Education Department had subsequently appointed a 3-member committee on April 21, 2017 through GO RT No. 66 and as CBS Venkata Ramana as Chairman of the Committee. The chairman of the committee had assured the students that he would bring the issue to the notice of the Government. Since then, the there was no further enquiry in to the irregularities, the students pointed out in their complaint.
Consequently, the recruitment process for the Professors of various departments of these institutions was stopped due to directions of the Higher Education Department. There was similar problem earlier when the varsities planned for recruitment of Associate and Assistant Professors in various varsities.
Further, a teaching faculty member from the Andhra University has been appointed recently as in-charge registrar as the former in-charge registrar was close relative of the Vice-Chancellor Veeraiah. The process of faculty recruitment has been stopped in the other two varsities besides VSU.
