Zoonotic diseases threat to animals

Tirupati: West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences Vice-Chancellor (V-C) Prof Purnendu Biswas said that zoonotic diseases like Anthrax, Avian Influenza, Tuberculosis and Rabies are increasingly posing threat to animals. 

Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) and Indian Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Research (IAAVR) have jointly organised a two-day national-level symposium on Friday here to promote national and international collaboration and animal health. V-C Purnendu has inaugurated the symposium on the premises of the SVVU. 

Addressing the delegates, he opined that the efforts to cure the diseases like cancer and respiratory diseases are becoming a major concern for the animals. Later, SVVU V-C Dr Y Hari Babu stated that trade of the livestock and livestock products should be done from India by taking veterinary certification.

Animal Husbandry Commissioner Dr Suresh S Honnappagol has mentioned that the central government wants to implement a health programme in consultation with FAO & WHO.
