AP Govt's hollowness over Polavaram Project exposed: Raghuram Purighalla

Update: 2018-02-24 18:08 IST

The delay in the construction of Polavaram project exposed Andhra Pradesh government's hollowness. Though the BJP led NDA government has come forward to extend all assistance for the completion of the project before 2019, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's government was not interested to complete the project in a time-bound manner, said AP BJP coordinator Raghuram Purighalla.

Notwithstanding the Orissa state government raised strong objections on Polavaram,  Prime minister Narendra Modi supposed the project and released funds from time to time.

The change of contract agency, non-submission of utilisation certificate to the centre and the misuse of funds brought to light the ruling TDP leaders deliberate attempt to delay the project, he added.

The state government has taken more than 27 months to send the reports to the centre on the project which includes rehabilitation of the displaced and unscientific escalation of the project cost.

The BJP leader also said the centre is committed to the completion of the project but Andhra government was not ready. The ruling TDP was exploiting the project for political benefits whereas the centre wanted to fulfil the people's dreams. Despite the hurdles, the centre will strive hard to complete Polavaram, Raghuram asserted.
