Call to explore free trade zone

Visakhapatnam: A high-level delegation of Thailand, including Deputy Minister of Commerce Chutima Bunyapraphasara, Adviser to Minister of Commerce Chayongkan Pamommast, Deputy Director-General of Department of Trade Negotiations Kejpiroon Kohsuwan, President Double APCL Yothin Dumnernchanvanit and other delegates, visited the Visakhapatnam Port Trust on Saturday. 

The team held discussions with the port management and enquired about the facilities in the harbour.

Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Trust MT Krishna Babu made a PowerPoint presentation on the infrastructure available, capacities in handling of cargo, modernisation and mechanisation, storage facilities, solar power, STP water treatment for industrial purpose, investment potential and zone of opportunities in exploring imports and exports in Visakhapatnam port and also the advantages for having business relations between India and Thailand through Visakhapatnam port seamlessly. 

The VPT Chairman emphasised that Thailand should explore the trading opportunities with India duly taking into consideration of infrastructure available at the port.

 A free trade zone and Cruise Tourism opportunities can be explored with the theme Look East Policy of the Central government and Look West Policy of Thailand.  The Chairman requested to take steps for development of Ranong Port in Thailand  for improved trade as it is logistically closer to  Visakhapatnam Port.

President AP Chamber of Commerce and Industry G.Sambasiva Rao have emphasised the need to have air connectivity between Visakhapatnam and Thailand for improving the tourism and trade between both the countries.  He explained about the Is of Doing business, pleasant industrial atmosphere and other friendly business promotional  activities from the both government and port management.  

Chutima Bunyapraphasara, Deputy Minister of Commerce, Head of the Thailand Delegation, thanked the Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Trust and the team for extending a warm welcome and emphasised the need for improvement of trade between Thailand and India and would definitely expedite the ways and means and study the possibilities of exploring better trading opportunities in the days to come and also will pursue the developments of Ranong Port.

Deputy Chairman PL Haranadh Krongkanit Rakcharen, Consul General Royal Thai Consulate-General, Chennai, and the Delegation from India, Members of AP Chamber of Commerce, Stevedores, PPP Operators and Senior Officers of VPT were present.
