‘Allergy causes cold, sneeze, catarrh’

Vijayawada: The ever-increasing atmospheric pollution has been causing various types of allergies to the respiratory system in general and nose in particular, says ear, nose, throat (ENT) specialist Dr PSN Murthy.

He was addressing the health education programme on ‘Cold, sneezes and catarrh’ at Vasavya Nursing Home here on Saturday with Dr G Samaram in the chair.
Dr Murthy said that many people were affected by atmospheric pollution resulting in cold, sneezes and catarrh accompanied by excessive secretions. “It is high time people are aware of nasal allergy and its prevention,” he added.

“Dust, pollen, pungent smells, fungus and other bacteria cause nasal allergy to both adults and children irrespective of age,” Dr Murthy said and added that patients would suffer from itch, continuous sneezes, excessive secretions from nose, red eyes and sinus problems.

“Nasal allergy is also one of the causes of asthma,” Dr Murthy said and added that catarrh troubles the nasal allergy patients.
Nasal allergy, which is generally found in smokers, causes inflammation of tissues in the nose.

The nasal allergy patients suffer from excessive secretions which flow into the throat, he said.

Dr Murthy said that catarrh results in sinusitis and earache and at times it might reach the brain.

The nasal allergy patients who suffer from sneezes, cold and catarrh, should not ignore the symptoms and immediately take medical help to manage it.
