Call to develop new equipments for agriculture use
Guntur: National Agriculture Imagery Programme Director Dr D Rama Rao called upon the engineering students to develop new products in farming to reduce cost of production.
Addressing a two-day national conference organised in association with AP Agros and Agriculture Engineering College, Bapatla on Monday, Rama Rao appealed to students to focus on inventing new tools using their technological skills to prevent cost of production in the agriculture.
He stressed on replacement of products instead of repairs and said that reinventing tools as per local needs with suitable technologies would help the farmers. “Replacement is the order of the day to develop new products,” he said and added a small technological invention in commercial crops will yield good returns.
Special Agriculture Commissioner Dr Hari Jawaharlal stressed on mechanisation of agriculture to reduce cost of expenditure. He said some farmers who are using latest technology in agriculture, getting 70-80 bags of groundnut per acre. He advised the students to make use of two days seminar and come out with some suggestions.
He explained various schemes introduced by the government to extend helping hand to the faremrs. He also gave tips to farmers how to get more yield with less investment. Acharya NG Ranga Agriculture University Vice-Chancellor Prof Damodar Naidu explained the technologies available across the globe in making farming more profitable. He said drones are making foot print in spraying pesticides in the agriculture.
Director of Water Technology Dr Mansingh (New Delhi) said AP is one of the leading state in adopting digital technology in the country and suggested the special commissioner of agriculture to explore more drainage related works in the state in collaboration with the Centre.
Over 200 stalls were set up relating to modernisation and mechanisation of agriculture. A souvenir containing 200 research articles was released on the occasion. ANGRAU registrar Dr T V Satyanarayana was also present.
