Kurnool: Advocates staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate here on Monday, demanding Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to set up the High Court in Rayalaseema region. They also obstructed the grievance cell. People, who have attended the weekly grievance meet, have extended their solidarity to the agitation of advocates.

Addressing the advocates, P Nirmala, who is an advocate by profession and the state leader of All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), said that the region deserves a High Court. Agitation would continue till the central and state governments relent and establish a High Court in backward region, she added.

Nirmala came down heavily on Chandrababu Naidu for ignoring the interests of Rayalaseema. She also lashed out at the Chief Minister for making irresponsible statements like setting up of High Court was not as easy as sanctioning a Mandal Revenue Office.

Addressing the gathering, another advocate alleged that the government was trying to suppress the agitation with force. He stated the cops have arrested the advocates and prevented them from meeting the Chief Minister at Penugonda. Several student organisations and voluntary groups have extended support for the cause of advocates.
