The High Court at Hyderabad has directed the Andhra Pradesh State Higher Education Department not to announce results of students belonging to various BEd and DEd private colleges in Prakasam, Guntur, and West Godavari districts. It expressed anger at the illegal manner in which admissions were conducted in these colleges.

The division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K Vijayalakshmi gave this direction on Tuesday while hearing a PIL petition filed by a journalist N Madhava Rao, alleging that unfilled seats under convenor quota were illegally diverted to management quota with support of the government and filled.

The bench expressed doubt that there must be something fishy in the government granting permission. It also expressed concern at what kind of teachers these colleges would produce without any infrastructure in place. It directed the government not to announce results of these students and adjourned the case by a week.

Senior counsel A Satyaprasad submitted to the bench that one person is running 21 BEd and DEd colleges in the three above mentioned districts, many of which do not have even basic infrastructure facilities apart from not having requisite faculty strength. Another senior counsel S Ravi appearing on behalf of the colleges sought one week time to submit full details regarding the facilities available in the colleges and regarding other charges made.
