Funds assured for sub-canals under Somasila, Kandaleru
Nellore: Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy informed that they would allocate funds for the sub-canals under Somasila south canal and also the Kandaleru left canal by next year.
He said that they had supplied irrigation water to 7 lakh acres from Somasila and Kandaleru reservoirs during this season. The Minister inspected the water levels at Thoderu and Biradavolu tanks in Podalakur mandal on Wednesday. He interacted with the local farmers and enquired about crop details in the area.
Speaking to the mediapersons, Somireddy said that they would supply irrigation water to the crops under Thoderu and Biradavolu tanks up to April 15. He said that they had arranged paddy procurement centres across the district.
The Minister said that they would develop Podalakur mandal on par with other delta mandals like Indukurpeta and Kovur. Farmers in Santhi Nagar and Rathanagari informed the Minister that about 10 persons died due to dengue and that they were facing difficulty to eke out a livelihood.
The Minister suggested to the farmers to apply for assistance from the CM relief fund and he would ensure that they get the financial assistance from the government. Engineer from the Telugu Ganga Project Parameswar Reddy, Assistant Director of the Agricultural Department Nageswar Rao, Viruvuru sarpanch B Suresh Kumar Reddy and others were present.
