Contract employees want regularisation of services
Tirupati: Electricity contract employees from 8 districts under the banner of the CITU staged a dharna in front of the corporate office of the Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (SPDCL) near Kesavayanagunta here on Wednesday, demanding the SPDCL management to fulfil their demands. As part of their weeklong agitation, they organised a protest here.
Earlier, the employees took out a rally in the temple city and reached the SPDCL office. They raised slogans against the management for not regularising the services of SPDCL contract employees. Addressing the employees, CITU state secretary MA Gafoor has accused the state government of neglecting rightful demands of contract employees.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is working against the interests of workers. Gafoor has demanded that the Chief Minister should take a decision over the regularisation of contract employees. He added that contract workers are playing a crucial role in supplying uninterrupted power to domestic and commercial use.
The CITU leader warned of intensifying agitation if the SPDCL management fails to regularise services of contract employees. Later, the contract staff has submitted a memorandum to SPDCL MD MM Naik. Union leaders V Gangaraju, Guruprasad, Balasubramanyam and other were present.
