Series of burglaries in city throw a challenge to cops
Kurnool: Around 15 shops were burgled at Krishna Nagar in the city on Tuesday night. Burglaries have become a menace in the city and the cops are finding it very difficult to curb them. Dozens of burglaries have taken place in the city in the recent past.
The cops are unable to apprehend the accused. With the spurt in burglaries, the residents of this areas are in a grip of fear and are questioning the police of their inability in controlling the crime. In January 2018, burglars sneaked into a locked house of a retired doctor and decamped with huge quantity of gold ornaments.
In the same month, two persons posing as customers to buy something entered a shop and decamped with eight tolas of gold chain and the incident has taken place in broad daylight. Similarly, a bank manager’s house was looted at Venkataramana Colony.
A teacher was robbed of 6 tolas of gold chain while she was returning home from Rockwood High School situated at five roads junction and near the residence of the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). Now, the burglary in 15 shops of Krishna Nagar is making the residents to spend sleepless nights.
Krishna Nagar is a busy centre and one could find motorists travelling round-the-clock passing this way to reach the national highway. Now, transportation at this place has come to a halt with the construction of an underground passage at Krishna Nagar railway bridge. This has made it easy for the robbers to carry out their operation smoothly.
After business hours, the entire place near the construction area wears a deserted look. Taking this as an advantage, burglars sneaked into 15 commercial shops and decamped with huge amount of cash and other articles. As usual, the owners reached the shops to resume business but were shocked on finding the locks of the shutters were broken.
One after another, around fifteen owners assembled at a place and lodged a complaint with the police, who rushed to the spot with sniffer dogs, a clues team and some finger print experts and took up investigation. The residents are angry that the police were unable to put an end to the burglaries, chain snatching incidents and other illegal activities taking place in the Kurnool city.
