Singapore keen on sharing knowledgeon handling port operations

Visakhapatnam: A high-level delegation from Singapore expressed its interest in sharing the knowledge in port related operations with the Visakhapatnam Port Trust.

The delegation is keen to exchange knowledge and updates in fixation of tariff, PPP operations, port revenues, LNG facilities, establishment of cruise terminal, expertise sharing in the controlling the pollution levels. The delegation also expressed its interests to join hands in port related operations in Vizag-Chennai Industrial Corridor and Free Trade Zone projects.

A delegation led by Director, Economic Development Tan Siew Ling, Director Institutional Development, Eric Tan Huck Gim and other officials, including Esther Tan, Edmumd Lim, Loh Zhonglie and Chong Su-Lynn from Singapore, on Thursday arrived in the city and held discussions with the VPT management.

Briefing about the VPT, Deputy Chairman of VPT PL Haranadh made a presentation on the infrastructure available, capacities in handling cargo, modernisation and mechanisation, covered storage facilities, solar power, STP water treatment for industrial purpose, investment potential and zone of opportunities in exploring imports and export improvements.

Haranadh explained the advantages for having business relations between India and Singapore through Port of Visakhapatnam seamlessly. The Deputy Chairman informed that once the hinterland connectivity is established it would strengthen better opportunities for development.

The proposal for development of cruise terminal and establishment of multi-model logistic parks would further improve the capacity of Visakhapatnam Port to the maximum extent possible.  

The volume of cargo of Singapore being handled at Visakhapatnam Port is 1.4 MT during the year 2016-17 and desired to explore the possibilities of better volume cargoes in the upcoming years, Haranadh explained.
