India, a land of talent: Vice-Chancellor

Tirupati: Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) Vice-Chancellor A Damodaram said that India is a vast land brimming with talented and creative people of diverse backgrounds. The V-C inaugurated a state-level innovation science exhibition at Regional Science Centre here on Friday.

On the occasion, addressing the youngsters and students, Damodaram informed that one of the oldest civilisations in the world is the Indian civilization. It has a strong tradition of science and technology.

“Research has shown that from making the best steel in the world to teaching the world to count, India was actively contributing to the field of science and technology centuries long before modern laboratories were set up,” the V-C stated.

Damodaram mentioned that many theories and techniques discovered by the ancient Indians have created and strengthened the fundamentals of modern science and technology. While some of these ground-breaking contributions have been acknowledged, some are still unknown to most.

“In the 100 years that have passed since breakthrough of scientific discoveries, the rate of scientific progress has even accurate. Indeed, there are estimates that on an average our knowledge has doubled every 15 years. 

NARL Gadanki Director Dr Amit Kumar Patra said that innovators need not be scientists, but any common man can innovate, irrespective of the age, qualification or background. Innovation is nothing but solving our problems with slight modifications in the existing setup that is mostly associated with ‘out of the box thinking’.

Most successful are need based innovations in the society. It may be by the people of the society or for the people. He added that there is a big scope for development in our country with innovations. Other than regular school curricula, it is very essential for the students to get exposed to various social problems.

Learning curve is accelerated now with new concepts and construction of knowledge out of experience is prioritised in the modern education, he added. Curator Sajoo Bhaskaran of Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, Bengaluru has presided over the meeting. Nearly 28 innovative ideas are exhibited in the festival.
