Role of ‘IR’ vital in modern surgeries, says Radiologist
Vijayawada: The role of interventional radiology (IR) is crucial in the development of modern surgeries, said interventional radiologist Dr M V Chalapathi Rao. He was the chief guest at the national seminar on ‘Progress of Surgical Treatment in 21st century’ at India Medical Association (IMA) Hall here on Saturday.
Dr Chalapathi Rao said with the advent of interventional radiology the treatment was done sans scar and spilling of blood. He said IR is an advancement over conventional surgeries. He said wounds and swelling of varicose veins can be cured by laser treatment. He said with the latest interventional radiology uterine artery embolisation can be done instead of fibroid surgery to uterus, he added.
He further stated that cancer tumors can be cured without surgery by IR. It plays a key role in curing blood vomiting with cough, bleeding through nose. Treatment to the patient has become easy with the advanced IR treatment and the patient can leave the hospital immediately after treatment. He said that everyone should have awareness on the latest IR treatment. IMA president Dr Subhash Chandra Bore, Secretary Dr Rasik Sanghvi and other members of IMA were present.
