House pattas for 30,000 hill area residents soon

Vijayawada: Thousands of poor families are going to benefit with the proposal of regularisation of unauthorised occupations, which are below 100 square yards in the limits of Vijayawada city. The officials have already invited applications from beneficiaries’ long time back. Now, the residents of hill area spread in several parts are likely to benefit with the government's proposal.

According to sources, the proposed Group of Ministers meeting is likely to take a decision in this regard on March 15. As per the survey, nearly 30,000 families are residing on hill slopes and the same number of families are living on canal bunds.

Besides, the local MLAs of Telugu Desam have taken initiative for the implementation of house site regularisation scheme keeping in view the political mileage. Nearly three lakh people are residing on canal bunds and on hill slopes in the city.

Recently, the revenue department taken a decision to provide pattas for 30,000 families of hill areas. These people will get ownership rights officially from the State government and are eligible for bank loans. 

"The government move to provide pattas for hill area residents would immensely benefit them, said Narra Raghava Rao, a resident of hill area at Christurajapuram. 

In case of 30,000 families who are residing on canal bunds, the government is planning to evacuate them by providing title deeds. Even some of them may oppose the State government's decision to remove the residences on canal bunds but majority of them would welcome if new houses are allotted, said P Murali, who owns a shop on canal bund at Lenin centre.

Already some of them were shifted to other locations, he added. Recently, the local TDP leadership opposed the removal of houses from canal bunds. However, they welcomed the government’s decision to construct houses for residents of canal bunds. One TDP MLA on condition of anonymity, said that the house allotment for poorer sections would boost TDP's strength in the ensuing elections.
