Centre Says No to Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh
The Centre is understood to have decided not to take any decisions based on sentiments and has given ample indications that it would not accord special category status to Andhra Pradesh. According to sources in Finance department, the government is willing only to implement the special package it had announced earlier.
It is learnt that the government has made it clear that it would not be possible to give any tax concessions that have been given to North Eastern states where SCS is being implemented. Not just that Centre also is said to have alleged that AP had not submitted accounts for Rs 12,500 crore which was given to it as revenue defecit so far. It is also understood to have commented that if it succumbs to pressure in the name of Telugu sentiment, tomorrow there could be agitations in the name of Tamil sentiment and Malayalam sentiment.
