GITAM to host 3-week Overseas Immersion Programme

Visakhapatnam: GITAM University is hosting for the first time Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore’s 3-weeks Overseas Immersion Programme (OIP). The team of 15 students accompanied by two faculties from the Info commerce and accounting department of Ngee Ann Polytechnic, arrived here on Monday.

The Ngee Ann Polytechnic was founded in 1963 long before they achieved independence from British rule in 1966. The institute was founded by The Ngee Ann Konsi and is now a full-fledged polytechnic, a public institution overseen by an independent council.

The three weeks overseas immersion programme would provide them exposure to Indian history, culture and heritage. It would also provide them exposure to AP government’s startup initiatives, FinTech ecosystem and some fun and tourism.

The students are also invited to participate in the GUSAC event starting on March 13. All the 15 students are for the first time visiting India, which itself provides tremendous cultural exposure. They have been put up within GITAM’s hostels as they would like to experience student’s life-style within hostels.

Vice-Chancellor, GITAM Prof M S Prasada Rao, Registrar Prof M Potaraju, FA and CAO K V Gupta welcomed the gathering. During the interaction, GITAM Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof K Shivaramakrishna , Principal, Institute of Management Principal Prof P Sheela, Foreign Student Affairs Director Dr Kishan Kaza and GITAM Alumni Jignesh Talasila addressed the gathering and informed on the benefits of such international cultural exchange programmes and advised the students to make the best use of such opportunity.

Faculty members from Ngee Ann Polytechnic (Singapore) Linda and Anand stressed on the importance of immersion programmes in Singapore’s educational curriculum and looking forward for many such exchange programmes as it mutually benefit them.

GITAM Fintech Academy Coordinator Leben Johnson went over the detailed itinerary and assured the students that they would leave no stone unturned to ensure the students have a memorable learning experience.

The MBA(FinTech) students who visited Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore in January were very quick at making friends and ensuring the guests were comfortable. 

The students expressed that such exchange programmes were the need of the day in Indian education system and we look forward to more such partnership trips with other institutions in addition to Ngee Ann.
