Left parties, people's groups demand Special Category Status
Anantapur: Left parties have continued their agitation for Special Category Status (SCS) to the AP state while the advocates boycotted courts for over a month demanding the setting up of the High Court in either of the Rayalaseema districts.
The Left parties stepped up their campaign against the central government for denying SCS to the state and the ruling TDP government for compromising with the sentimental demand of the people.
CPM town secretary Ram Bhoopal stated that the Chief Minister stood exposed before the people for taking two extreme positions just to suit his political convenience. He observed that the Chief Minister had stated in unequal terms that the special package given by the Centre is far more a superior offer to the state. Now, sensing the popular mood, he is once again pitching for SCS.
The CPI leader Jagadeesh too was critical of the double standards of the Chief Minister as well as the betrayal of the AP cause and the election promise made by no less than the Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the country.
Like the Congress, the BJP too would meet the same fate in the state in the next elections. Several people's organisations too joined the Left parties in demanding nothing less than SCS to the beleaguered state of AP. Hundreds of agitators raised anti-government slogans and pronounced defeat to forces of betrayal in the next Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
