Contract Electrical Workers JAC chief tries to immolate

Eluru: Tension prevailed at APEPDCL SE’s office when Andhra Pradesh Contract Electrical Workers JAC Chairman Harikrishna tried to immolate when he was denied joining duty here on Thursday.

The Andhra Pradesh Contract Electrical Workers Union observed 15 days strike, which ended on Wednesday night, after the discussions with the EPDCL CMD. On the directive of the CMD, the workers withdrew strike and agreed to join the duty.

However, in West Godavari district, the officials did not allow them to join the duty. Officials did not allow them stating that new workers joined the duty when they were on strike. 

The workers leaders alleged though the CMD had directed all thje districts to take joining reports from the workers, the divisional engineers did not allow them to join the duty.  in Eluru, superintending engineer Ch Satyanarayana Reddy did not allow the contract workers to join the duty. 

On receiving information, Andhra Pradesh Contract Electrical Workers JAC Chairman Harikrishna reached the SE office in Eluru and staged a protest. At one stage, irritated Harikrishna doused his body with kerosene and tried to immolate, but workers who present at the spot stopped him.
