3 lakh children to be covered in polio drive

Kadapa: The District Medical & Health department has made elaborate arrangements for conducting the second phase of pulse polio programme to be held from March 11 to 13 across the district. As many as 3,17,566 children below five years of age in the district would be administered polio drops in the 3-day event.

A total of 2,980 polio booths have been set up across the district in 298 routes including 74 mobile teams have been pressed into service to cover children of migrated families.

As many as 12,514 personal have been deployed for the programme from all departments.
Addressing media here on Saturday, District Medical & Health Officer N Uma Sundari said that nursing students, ASHA, Anganwadi workers, medical students, NCC, Scouts & Guides, community voluntaries and self-help groups will take part in the programme.  She said polio immunisation will be implemented at booth level in both rural and urban areas on March 11.

She said children, who have missed polio drops at booths, would be covered in house-to-house visit by the teams on March 12 and 13. She said polio centres were set up at all transit points like railway stations and bus stands, which would work round-the-clock.
On the occasion, pulse polio rally was flagged off by joint collector-2 Siva Reddy in the city on Saturday to create awareness on the drive. 

The rally was started at Municipal office and concluded at Seven roads junction in the city. District Immunisation officer N Malleswari, additional DM & HO K Rami Reddy were
present.
