BSNL to provide Wi-Fi hotspots in rural exchanges

Visakhapatnam: Principal General Manager of Viskhapatnam Telecom District Nalini Varma said that the BSNL supporting the Union government’s Digital India initiative and providing Wi-Fi hotspots in the rural exchanges. Reliable internet services through hotspots would be ensured in the rural pockets, she added.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Nalini Varma said that apart from providing landline, broad band and mobile connections, BSNL is providing enterprise business solutions to both the State and Central government organisations, PSUs and banks.

She also added that BSNL has introduced bulk user Wi-Fi spots for various corporate customers, including at hospitals and colleges. Under the project, BSNL had commissioned six Wi-Fi hot spots and work was in progress at four more locations, she explained.

Under Bharat Net Project in 21 Blocks, 492 gram panchayats would be connected through Ordinal Frequency Module (OF) for providing internet services at rural areas.

The Ordinal Frequency Module (OF) transport network is also provided from Visakhapatnam to Rajamahendravaram, Visakhapatnam to Koraput, Visakhapatnam to Bubaneswar routes for providing super express connectivity.

Work at Visakhapatnam to Sambalpur is under progress and would be completed by this month end, she said. The PGM appealed to the BSNL customers to link up the Aadhaar number with their mobile numbers before March 31.
