Directorate of Revenue Intelligence busts bid to smuggle 4 cr red sanders to China

Visakhapatnam: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) recovered 10.1 tonnes of red sanders logs here at Visakhapatnam Container Terminal Private Limited (VCTPL) on March 7.    

On specific intelligence that the red sanders was being smuggled through containers, a special team of DRI raided and found the offloaded two containers from a vessel bound to China. In fact, the contraband was loaded at Chennai and was supposed to be smuggled to China via Visakhapatnam.

On detailed examination of the containers, the DRI officials recovered and detained 10.1 tonne red sanders along with bentonite powder in the two containers.  

The officials detained the containers containing the red sanders for violation of the provisions of the Customs Act 1962 and the Foreign Trade Policy. The recovered red sanders is estimated to value Rs 4 crore. The DRI officials said that an investigation is still in progress.
